Provisional Access to Medical Treatment (PAMT) allows veterans to receive treatment for certain conditions while their compensation claim is being assessed — meaning you do not have to wait for the claim decision before getting help.
PAMT covers exactly 20 conditions. If your claim is for one of these conditions, you may be eligible for PAMT from the time you lodge your claim.
The 20 PAMT-eligible conditions are:
Musculoskeletal (16): 1. Achilles tendinopathy and bursitis 2. Chondromalacia patella 3. Cut, stab, abrasion and laceration 4. Dislocation 5. Fracture 6. Internal derangement of the knee 7. Intervertebral disc prolapse 8. Joint instability 9. Labral tear 10. Lumbar spondylosis 11. Osteoarthritis 12. Plantar fasciitis 13. Rotator cuff syndrome 14. Shin splints 15. Sprain and strain 16. Thoracic spondylosis
Hearing (2): 17. Sensorineural hearing loss 18. Tinnitus
Skin (2): 19. Non-melanotic malignant neoplasm of the skin 20. Solar keratosis
Important: Mental health conditions (PTSD, depression, anxiety) are not on the PAMT list. However, all mental health conditions qualify for Non-Liability Health Care (NLHC), which provides immediate access to treatment without proving a service link. Cancer also qualifies for NLHC.
PAMT is available before 30 June 2026 under current legislation. After that date, similar provisions will exist under the improved MRCA.
To access PAMT, lodge your claim and ask DVA about PAMT eligibility. DVA will assess whether your claimed condition is on the PAMT list. Verify this directly with DVA as the list may be updated.
