Rehabilitation Under MRCA

Vocational training, workplace modifications, and return-to-work support.

Under MRCA, rehabilitation is a key component of the compensation framework. DVA provides rehabilitation services to help veterans recover, maintain function, and where possible return to work or other meaningful activity.

DVA may require participation in a rehabilitation program as a prerequisite for long-term incapacity payments under MRCA. This is not a punitive measure — it is designed to support your recovery and help you achieve the best possible outcome.

Types of rehabilitation support available include:

Vocational training: Courses, certifications, or education to help you move into a new career or role that accommodates your accepted conditions.

Workplace modifications: Changes to your current or future workplace to allow you to work safely and effectively with your accepted conditions.

Return-to-work support: A structured plan developed with DVA to help you transition back to employment, including graduated return-to-work programs.

Medical rehabilitation: Treatment and therapy programs specifically aimed at improving your functional capacity.

Psychosocial rehabilitation: Support for the social and psychological aspects of living with your accepted conditions, including community reintegration.

DVA assigns a rehabilitation coordinator who works with you to develop an individual rehabilitation plan. This plan is based on your specific needs, conditions, and goals.

Participating in rehabilitation does not affect your existing compensation payments. It is separate from the compensation process and is designed to support your overall wellbeing and independence.
