Education Schemes (MRCAETS and VCES)

Educational and tutoring support for children of eligible veterans.

This article describes DVA education schemes for children of eligible veterans. This tool currently supports veteran self-claims only — dependant and family pathways are not yet supported here. For guidance on these schemes, verify directly with DVA or speak with a qualified advocate.

DVA provides educational support for children of veterans through two main schemes: the MRCA Education and Training Scheme (MRCAETS) and the Veterans' Children Education Scheme (VCES).

MRCAETS provides educational and tutoring support for children of veterans who have died or are severely impaired as a result of service under the MRCA. This can include financial assistance for school and tertiary education, tutoring support, and help with educational expenses.

VCES provides similar support for children of veterans covered by the VEA. It can include assistance with education fees, books, and other educational costs, as well as tutoring and career guidance.

Eligible children may receive support from primary school through to tertiary education. The schemes are designed to ensure that children of severely affected veterans have access to the educational support they need.

If a veteran has died as a result of service, their children may also be eligible for an orphan's pension or other dependant benefits. Eligible children receiving orphan's pension or dependant support should also check their eligibility for MRCAETS or VCES educational assistance.

Actual entitlements depend on individual DVA assessment. Verify this directly with DVA.
