Attendant Care

Personal care assistance for veterans with service-related conditions.

Veterans requiring personal care assistance due to service-related conditions may be eligible for attendant care support. This covers help with personal activities such as bathing, dressing, mobility, and other daily care needs that you cannot manage independently because of your accepted conditions.

Attendant care is available under MRCA and may be available under other Acts. DVA generally considers the severity of your accepted conditions and how they affect your ability to care for yourself.

To apply, use form D2550 (Application for Attendant Care). You will need medical evidence demonstrating the level of personal care assistance required and how your accepted conditions create that need.

DVA will arrange a needs assessment to determine the appropriate level of attendant care. This may involve a visit from an assessor who will discuss your daily routine and care needs.

Actual entitlements depend on individual DVA assessment. Verify this directly with DVA.
